Introduction
Our May events were packed with fun and new faces! We hit the track with Coach Kyle of Try Kyle's Tri Coaching, who led us through a dynamic warm up and a track session designed to improve anaerobic threshold. The Splash and Dash at Twin Lakes was a blast! We combined some of our favorite activities, a brick workout and a cookout. Thank you to the Sessums who provided the grill!
To the new members, and a reminder for our existing members, be sure to take advantage of all the perks you receive as an active HRTC member. Check out the Local Race Calendar for races in the Houston area. Race/Event discounts are available here - be sure to check the list before registering! This month the team tent will be up at Sylvan Beach and Pomona triathlons - feel free to leave your bags there and grab some shade after.
The Bike Maintenance Clinic is on Monday, June 8 at the Memorial Park Picnic Loop. Alberto with Bikanics will be there for a hands-on clinic, bring your bike if needed and questions. Yoga for Triathletes is on Saturday, June 27 at the Silver Street Momentum Indoor Climbing Gym. Active members may attend for free, please arrive early to sign the waiver and check in. The gym is offering 50% off a climbing day pass for those who want to stay after and climb. More details on upcoming events and races may be found below.

Hydration: Beat the Heat
Summer has officially hit Houston and these temperatures are no joke. Hydrate early and often before races and workouts. Be sure to have a hydration plan during your workout - know how much you need and where you can refill/replace. Know the warning signs of heat exhaustion and heatstroke and be sure to lookout for yourself and those around you.
Not sure how much to drink? Do an at-home sweat test to calculate your sweat loss. These links are examples of how to do that from Precision Hydration adapted from My Sport Science.
